Why?

The simple goal of the Men’s Getaway is to provide the opportunity for men to establish friendships, build community, to become better connected to the church, to learn and grow in faith – and to do this while having a really good time.

Where?

After two great trips to Lisbon, we’re going to try something different this year. We have rented a 600 square meter “home” in Malvoisin, Belgium. The goal was to find a nice place where we could enjoy being together, share meals, play games, and sit by the fire – but also where we could get out and enjoy nature.

The house features:

  • 26 beds in 9 bedrooms (each with its own bathroom)
  • “Man Cave” with billiards and foosball
  • Honesty bar with Belgian ♆Trappist beers
  • Professional, equipped kitchen
  • High-speed Wifi
  • 20,000 square meter property with garden, fields, volleyball, bocce, and a trampoline – 2 minute walk to the forest.

What?

The schedule will look something like this:

  • Thursday: Arrive anytime after 4; eat dinner together at the house
  • Friday and Saturday: breakfast, morning session, lunch/excursion, dinner at the house – Sunday: Breakfast, morning sessions, lunch, depart

We’ll eat breakfast and dinner at the house and have “group time” together each morning. On the two full days (Friday and Saturday) we’ll plan afternoon excursions, either in the immediate vicinity or further afield. What we decide will be based on the interest of the group, and if our group is large then it’s possible that different people can do different things.

The goal is to fill all 26 beds for all three nights. One of the reasons we chose to go somewhere within easy driving distance is that it allows people to come for part of the weekend who might not be able to get away for all three nights. That said, we also strongly encourage anyone who is able to for all three nights to make that priority (buy your wife some flowers if you must). For that reason, we’re initially going to open registration only to those who can commit to coming for the whole time.

Cost?

The price is €130 for all three nights. This is more expensive than the previous two years because we are staying in a much nicer place and because this will cover the cost of most meals. We expect that you’ll need to pay for our own lunch on Friday and Saturday. You also don’t need to buy a flight!

Assuming that slots remain for part-timers then we will set the price based on the amount of time you’re able to come, but it’s unlikely that any discount will be proportional to the total cost. We want to be fair, but we also want to incentive people coming for the full time in addition to covering our expenses. We’ll need to assess the situation.
